West Chester University for an undergraduate degree in Early Grades Preperation/Special Education and Rosemont College for Masters in Literacy to become a reading specialist.
How did you know that education was the right field for you?
When I was in high school I took a child development course and worked with preschoolers. I loved planning lessons and spending time with the kids.
What drew you to Belmont’s mission?
Belmont is very community driven and student focused. The special education department in particular works hard to help support students and families in the community with their education needs.
What makes your school a special place/what do you like best about teaching here?
The staff is warm and friendly. Students and staff members have strong bonds. I love walking down the hall and seeing all the positive interactions between students and staff.
What’s your favorite school memory at Belmont Charter Network?
The Thanksgiving dinners and the star family dinners are always so fun!
How do you create joy in the classroom?
In my room students work for rewards, play learning games and celebrate success/growth.
What is the greatest challenge you face as a teacher and how do you overcome it?
This year has been very challenging! Teaching virtually was not easy for teachers. I am looking forward to going back in person and seeing my students. Learning new programs and adapting to a new teaching style was difficult but we all did it!
What is one piece of advice you would give to Belmont students?
Keep reading! Read everyday! Talk about the books you read with your families, friends and teachers.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Philadelphia?
Take walks with my husband and friends.
