Putting students first!

Ms. Lisa has worked with Belmont Charter Network for over seven years. She focuses not only on traditional instruction but also on the social and emotional prosperity of her students. Ms. Lisa has worked at both Belmont Charter and Inquiry Charter Schools as a third and fourth grade classroom teacher. As a founding third grade Inquiry teacher, she has helped build the school culture and curriculum. Ms. Lisa’s class is joyful, calm, and studious. She has embraced the school values of curiosity, growth, and generosity and exudes Inquiry’s organizational core values, most specifically that you meet children where they are. Ms. Lisa is not only an Inquiry teacher, but a proud Inquiry parent as well! Her son Tristan currently attends pre-kindergarten at ICS.

When you were your students’ age, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to join the Air Force.

Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I always enjoyed working with children, and I strongly believe in equitable education for everyone.

What makes your school a special place?

Our school is a special place because of the families we serve and the resources we are able to provide beyond academics. We also have class themes that make learning unique to each grade.

What is the best part of your school day?

Class Meeting in the morning is my favorite part. It is a time we all get to know each other and have some fun. I also try to add some current events and vocabulary into this time.

How do you create joy in the classroom?

I hope that I create joy by letting each student know that he or she is special, that our room is a safe place to take risks as a learner, and we can all be our imperfect selves.

Which book do your read over and over again?

I can’t list just one! several books by James Baldwin and Oh The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Suess

What is your favorite Philly activity for a day off?

My favorite thing to do is visit a new place or go on an adventure around the city with my two boys.

What is the best field trip you have ever taken?

The Jurassic World exhibit at The Franklin Institute was one of the best.

What is the best gift you have ever received?

A personalized framed piece of art that had sentimental value

When do you feel successful?

I feel successful whenever I learn something new, put it into action, and share it if I can.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

The best advice I’ve ever received was to not compare myself to others, but to set my own goals. .

Who do you most admire?

My father
