Ms. O’Connor is new to the Belmont Charter family this year! She taught 2nd grade in Chester for five years before joining Belmont Charter Elementary School in August 2020.

When did you join Belmont Charter Network?
Where did you go to school? What was your major/degree?
I went to West Chester University. I have a masters degree in Elementary Education
How did you know that education was the right field for you?
I always knew I wanted to be an educator. Even when I was young, I would tell everyone I wanted to be a teacher. In highschool, I went to a vocational school in the afternoons. I studied Education and with that experience, I knew I would go to college to study Education.
What drew you to Belmont’s mission?
Their involvement with the community. Belmont’s mission is one I agree with whole heartedly.
What makes your school a special place/what do you like best about teaching here?
With this being my first year at Belmont, I appreciate how friendly and welcoming the staff and families were. Belmont is truly a special place and I am so glad to be apart of it.
What’s your favorite school memory at Belmont Charter Network?
September’s PBIS incentive- The Farm.
How do you create joy in the classroom?
By following Belmont’s mission. Making sure everyone feels special, safe, and heard. Our class loves to share and we all enjoy getting to know each other through Zoom.
What is the greatest challenge you face as a teacher and how do you overcome it?
My greatest challenge was making the decision to leave my previous school and come to Belmont. I was with CCCS for 5 years and built great relationships with staff and families. I am glad I made the decision to join Belmont and I am excited for the future here at BCES.
What is one piece of advice you would give to Belmont students?
Work hard and do not give up!
What’s your favorite thing to do in Philadelphia?
Go to the restaurants.
