1st Grade Teaching Assistant , Inquiry Charter School

Ms. Gatewood is a Belmont Charter Network Alumni, she attended Belmont Charter Middle School from 5th-8th grade before becoming a Teaching Assistant in the network.  She has been a part of Inquiry Charter School since 2019, currently in a first grade classroom.

Where did you go to school? What was your major/degree?

Penn State University, Major in Communications

How did you know that education was the right field for you?

When my coworkers felt like family.

What drew you to Belmont’s mission?

The history I shared with Belmont.  It’s an overwhelming experience to be apart of the team! 

What makes your school a special place/what do you like best about teaching here?

The staff feels like family and not just a work place.

What’s your favorite school memory at Belmont Charter Network?

The stingrays performing at SWM 2020.

How do you create joy in the classroom?

I try to be the “fun” teacher using different learning tools and relatable terminology with the kids.

What is the greatest challenge you face as a teacher and how do you overcome it?

Knowing how to turn my “friend” off. Many times kids get wrapped up in my friendly personality and forget I’m their teacher too.

What is one piece of advice you would give to Belmont students?

Stay hungry and stay foolish!

What’s your favorite thing to do in Philadelphia?

A picnic by the water

When you were your students’ age, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A singer!
